Emotional intelligence (also known as “EQ”) is a so-called “soft skill” that can have a more inward focus: as they say, know thyself, and you’ll improve your emotional intelligence. Each professional has their own individual set of skills, abilities, and knowledge. In reviewing work produced by others, unlike self-review, two totally different individual sets of skills, abilities, and knowledge come into play!
Working as a reviewer means being open to the perspectives and the solutions of others, without trying to impose our own ideas on someone who has produced an acceptable piece of work; and recognizing the validity of approaches to translation that are different from our own.
